Goals
Create an engaging and visually appealing mobile app experience and design.
Enable users to easily discover, review and share their favorite international restaurants/places to eat.
Cultivate a sense of exploration in users, encouraging them to try new foods from around the world.
Foster a sense of community by allowing users to connect and share their experiences on the app and social networks.
Process
Research: To understand the needs of our target audience, we conducted user research and identified key behavior archetypes:
Travel buddy: Travels with groups of friends
Food enthusiast: Food blogger/vlogger who travels to countries for food content.
Both needed a source for trustworthy restaurant recommendations that provided information and reviews at a glance. This way they can converse less with the locals because of the language barrier.
Information Architecture and Rapid Wireframing: We organized the app into five main sections: Home, Discover, Saved, Notfications, and Profile.
Wireframes were created to establish the layout and structure of each screen, ensuring a seamless user flow.
UI Design: The Discover screen features a card-based interface where users browse through different types of restaurants. Each restaurant has an short audio preview with star reviews. We also designed the profile section where users can connect and upload food photos and videos.
User Testing: Usability testing was conducted with our target users to identify any pain points and areas for improvement.
Iterative design changes were made to enhance the app's usability and overall user experience.
Conclusion
Globite successfully bridges the gap between travelers seeking authentic food experiences and locals eager to share their recommendations. The app's dating-style interface adds an element of excitement to food discovery, and its user-centric design encourages connections, conversations, and community building. The UI/UX design process prioritized creating an engaging, informative, and interactive experience, turning food exploration into a delightful adventure for users worldwide.
Next Steps
Create a rewards system for active participation.
Consider changing the Discover section to a card swipe interface similar to dating apps.
Develop a community feed where users can chat, exchange photos, and set meet-ups to enjoy food together.
Ongoing updates with the app based on user feedback and user needs.
